Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Labor unions play a critical role in advocating for workers’ rights and influencing labor policies. Print media serves as a vital medium for covering union activities, including strikes, negotiations, and policy advocacy. In Kaduna North Local Government, Kaduna State, newspapers and magazines have reported extensively on labor issues such as wage disputes, workplace safety, and employment policies (Ahmed & Suleiman, 2024). These reports shape public opinion and foster dialogue between unions, employers, and policymakers. However, the effectiveness of print media in representing labor union activities depends on its objectivity, depth of coverage, and alignment with the interests of workers and unions (Garba, 2023).
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the role of print media in covering labor union activities, challenges such as biased reporting, limited access to accurate information, and inadequate focus on worker perspectives persist.
